Engaged!

We are delighted to have been invited to return to the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate this year with our production of 'Engaged'.  This piece was originally a Gilbert play first performed in 1877.  It was called a Savoy Opera without music and when the Gilbert copyright expired in 1961 it provided the opportunity for two Bristol academics to turn it into a Savoy Opera with music!  The adaptation uses lyrics and music from the four lesser-known G&S operas: Thespis, The Sorcerer, Utopia Ltd and The Grand Duke and from other scores.  "Di Ballo" is featured as overture and thematically in the opera itself.  The intention of 'Engaged' was to assemble a characteristic Gilbert and Sullivan opera from existing and unfamiliar G&S material.  The result is a delightfully funny romp through Scotland and England with some colourful characters accompanied by the wonderful music of Sullivan with some interesting twists!  This is a rare opportunity to see this delightful production.
The performance will take place in the Royal Hall Harrogate on Friday 11th August at 7.30pm and tickets can be purchased through the Internation G&S Festival website.
